Lawsuit aimed at Title IX A lawsuit was filed in federal court Wednesday that seeks to protect collegiate athletic programs from being eliminated due to Title IX actions. The suit, filed by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), alleges that in 1996 the Department of Education unlawfully altered the way it interprets Title IX. NWCA is seeking to restore Title IX to its original intent - providing equal opportunity without discriminating against any student-athlete. Danbury takes 2nd in Tournament of Champions NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. --- Anthony Hays (130) and Dennis Stone (152) each won titles as Danbury finished a close second to Lowell High in the New England Tournament of Champions Saturday. The Hatters were only 4½ points behind Lowell, 164½-160. NFA, led by champion Jason Pagan (145) finished sixth in the field of 12 teams. Freddy Ruperto (112) and Josh Murphy (189) each finished second. Stone earned tournament MVP honors for Danbury. Nick Weyer (103) and Chris Kaplanis (215) each finished second for the Hatters while Phil Young (112) was third. New Fairfield takes 6th at MAU Tourney The New Fairfield High wrestling team placed sixth at the Mount Anthony Union High School Tournament Saturday in Bennington, Vt. Kevin Gaughan took first at 130 pounds, Ian Kessler (112) and Mike Walsh (189) both took second, Raj Penta (103) and Mike Azzarito (135) both took third and Ray Dommermuth (275) took fourth. Stratford's Anthony Corivino (140) finished second. Mt. Anthony rolled to the easy victory. The Avon High wrestling team snapped a three-match losing streak with four straight wins to improve to 14-6.
