Shaw captures national title LAKE ORION, Mich., March 30 -- Waterford's Stefanie Shaw outlasted Minnesota's Chelynne Pringle, 10-5, to win the U.S. Girls Wrestling Association national championship at 138 pounds. Shaw went 4-0 in the tournament with a pair of pins to win the championship. Two other Connecticut girls earned All-American honors. Danbury's Susan Levitt finished sixth at 105 pounds while Norwich's Jade Perry was fifth at 130 pounds. Newington's Kelli Parady finished 10th at 138 pounds. California won the national championship with three individual champions and six wrestlers in the finals, outlasting Michigan, 181½ to 163½. Two state girls share N.Y. title at 138 BINGHAMTON, N.Y., March 16, 2003 -- Stefanie Shaw of Waterford and Jade Perry of Norwich tied for the 138 pound championship in the high school division at the 3rd annual New York USGWA (U.S. Girls Wrestling Association) state championship meet Sunday. Both wrestlers went 2-0 in the tournament with a pair of pins. Stamford's Laura Ludwig (120) finished third while Chelsea Hager of Quaker Hill was second at 147. In the Middle School division, Uncasville's Jessica Bennett won the title at 72 pounds, Brooklyn's Dyami Souza (114), Quaker Hill's Alyson Millaras (121) each finished second while Victoria Satti of New London (108) and Kirstal Simon of Waterford (126) each finished third. |
