Maine girl loses
state final in 2 OT
AUGUSTA, Maine, Feb. 12 -- Sanford’s Shane Leadbetter (130) won a Maine Class A title in 2-1 double overtime victory on Feb. 12 with a victory over Marshwood’s Deanna Rix, the first girl to reach the finals of a Maine state wrestling tournament. Rix could have qualified for the New England Tournament with a victory. Leadbetter escaped from Rix with four seconds left in 2 OT to earn the win. The respective champions in Class A, B and C advance to the New England Tournament.

PROVIDENCE, Feb. 26 – Undefeated Shane Corsi (152) of Cumberland won a state championship to lead the Clippers to its first title in 26 years. Cumberland had six wrestlers in the finals and crowned two champions.

SALEM – In a battle of defending New England champions, Lowell’s Casey Boyle (119) hit a reversal with 32 seconds left to snap a scoreless tie and beat Dracut’s Peter Nolan, 2-1 to win his fourth All-State title. At 147 pounds, Concord-Carlises’s Max Klinoff upset top-seed Andew Hawley (47-1) from Gateway, 10-5. Franklin senior C.J. Colace (160) set a new Bay State record with his 45th straight pin as he pinned Joe Kehoe of Cohasset in the finals in 1:37.

CONCORD, Feb. 26 – Timberlane easily won the New Hampshire title with 270 points, nearly double the score of runner-up Concord with 143 points. Timberlane put 11 wrestlers in the finals and came away with six champions. Timberlane’s Eric Morrill (112), Devon Hanson (135), Anthony Scali (140), Concord’s Tyler Saltsman (125) and Plymouth’s Dan Pasquarella (215) each repeated as state champions. Simeon Everett (145) of Manchester Memorial earned the meet’s Outstanding Wrestler award.
