College roundup
Jack earns ACC weekly recognition
North Carolina State sophomore Kevin Jack (Danbury) was named the co-wrestler of the week by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Jack, a 141-pound sophomore, earned two wins last week over top 10 opponents.

In a battle of the top-two ranked 141 pound wrestlers in the ACC, No. 3 Jack defeated No. 7 Solomon Chishko of Virgina Tech, 3-2. He then followed up with a 4-2 win over No. 6 Matt Manley of Missouri on Sunday. He did not allow a takedown in either bout this past weekend.

Jack finished a perfect 5-0 in ACC action, with three of those wins versus opponents ranked No. 11 or better.

No. 8 Virginia Tech won the final three bouts to erase a one-point Wolfpack lead and hand North Carolina State its first loss of the season, 19-14. North Carolina State began the season with a school record 21 victories. The win gives Virginia Tech (14-2, 4-0 ACC) the regular season league title.

Jack earned the first of three Wolfpack victories with a 3-2 win over No. 7 Solomon Chishko. Jack scored the bout's lone takedown in the first period and each wrestler traded escapes and a late Jack stall was not enough. The win was Jack's 13th in a row, and the 50th of his NC State career.

On Sunday against No. 5 Missouri, North Carolina State rallied from behind to earn 18-17 victory. At 141, Jack downed No. 6 Matt Manley, 4-2. After a scoreless first, Jack started the second on bottom and scored the lone point of the period with an escape. Manley got a reversal to start the third, but Jack quickly answered with a reversal of his own, and rode out Manley the rest of the period and tacked on another point for ride time.

With the win, Jack has now won 14 straight - with four of his last five wins all versus opponents ranked 17th or better.

No. 4 North Carolina State (22-1) will travel to No. 2 Iowa (16-0) on Monday, Feb. 22 to compete in the NWCA National Duals championship series at 8 p.m., EST.
