Thursday, Dec. 28 Windham Tech wins two: Chris Cote collected two pins at 215 pounds, one coming in 29 seconds, as Windham Tech (7-1) overtook South Windsor, 48-27, and East Windsor, 58-15. Tech's Corey Mattingly (135) and Kevin Cordier (171) also grabbed two pins to vault the Beavers to a 7-1 overall record with a key Charter Oak Conference battle against rival RHAM on tap for next Wednesday, Jan. 3. Trojans win Valley Tournament: Simsbury had four individual champions and placed seven wrestlers in the finals to win the Farmington Valley Tournament by 55 points over Fitch, 176½ to 121½. Joe MacDonald (135), Steve Hoffus (160), Mac Cook (189) and Joe Zacchera (189) each won for the Trojans. Glastonbury's Kevin Egolf (119) was named the tournament MVP. Simsbury won the tournament for the fifth straight year.

Wednesday, Dec. 27 Rams take third in Keene tournament -- Bristol Central finished third among 15 teams at the Keene Christmas Tournament. The Rams tallied 148 points and finished behind champion Cranston East (R.I) with 195 points and runnerup Keene with 161.5. Newtown was fourth with 147.5 points and Hollis-Brookline (N.H.) placed fifth with 79. Central's lone champion was Chris Porrini at 275, who also claimed the fastest fall award with three pins in 2:33. Finishing second for Central were Nick Therriault (112), John Valenta (140) and Mike Croce (215). Ryan McKenna (135) and Mike Drury (189) each finished third while Pat Fanelli (119), Joel Fulton (140) and Corey Kozuch (145) were fourth in their respective weight classes. Martin wins 100th career match Bristol Eastern's Kevin Martin (119) earned his 100th career victory with a pair of wins over Windham High and NFA. Eastern beat Windham, 39-34 but lost to NFA, 41-26. Martin, 7-0 on the season, is now 101-16 for his career. He is the fifth Eastern wrestler to win over 100 matches, joining Dave Losey, Ryan Latour, Josh Krueger and Ryan Gimpl. Ledyard 40, Waterford 33: Heavyweight Mark Tacket won the final match of the evening to lift Ledyard (3-2) to a victory. Tacket beat Waterford's Dave Walker, 15-2 to cement the victory. Waterford (0-3) had cut the lead to three, 36-33, erasing a 36-20 deficit with consecutive victories by Kyle Hightower (171, injury default), Adam Karasevicz (189, pin) and Tom Bateman (215). The Colonels' Erik Davis slipped by Waterford's Kevin Silvestri, 6-5 in a great match at 125 pounds. NFA sweeps three: NFA used 10 pins to beat Griswold, 66-12, before stopping Bristol Eastern, 41-24, and Windham, 38-24, to remain undefeated at 5-0. Freddy Ruperto (112), Brett Piscitello (125), Adam Barber (130), Adam Chenette (152), Josh Murphy (160) and Mike Schaller (171) each went 3-0 for NFA.
