KANSAS CITY, Mo, March 15 -- Four Connecticut natives wrestling in the NCAA Division I championships each won one match in the tournament this weekend. Sacred Heart's Anthony Reynolds (197 pounds, Berlin) and Jason Cucolo (133, Darien) each won a match in the championship bracket but lost twice to be eliminated. Brown's Nick Ciarcia (184, Berlin) and Sacred Heart's Rob Belville (154, New Milford) each won a consolation round bout. Sacred Heart finished 42nd in the field with six points while Ciarcia was the only wrestler to earn a point for Brown, which finished 66th.

Reynolds, Ciarcia still alive in NCAA Tournament
KANSAS CITY, March 14 -- In early action in the NCAA Division I wrestling championships, Sacred Heart's Jason Cucolo (133) upset 12th seeded Mike Simpson of Arizona State in the first round but lost in the second round.

Sacred Heart teammate Anthony Reynolds (197), the 8th seed in the tournament, won his first round match but fell in the second round to 9th seed Kyle Smith of Michigan, 7-4. Reynolds is still alive in the consolation bracket along with Brown's Nick Ciarcia (184).

Cucolo and New Milford native Rob Belville (157) have been eliminated. Belville, who also wrestles for SHU, won a consolation round bout.

Four state wrestlers at NCAA Tournament
KANSAS CITY, March 21 -- Four former Connecticut wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Division I tournament in Kansas City. Sacred Heart's Anthony Reynolds (197, Berlin), Brown's Nick Ciarcia (184, Berlin), Sacred Heart's Jason Cucolo (133, Darien) and SHU's Rob Belville (157, New Milford) each qualified.

Reynolds finished second at 197 in the Colonial Athletic Association meet while Cucolo and Belville finished third. Reynolds is seeded 8th in the NCAA Tournament.

Former Xavier wrestler Nick Ciarcia (184) of Brown University qualified for the second year in a row. Ciarcia (184) finished fourth in the 99th EIWA championship meet as Brown finished seventh. Sacred Heart finished second in the CAA to Hofstra.
