Jack wins third dual but Wolfpack fall to
No. 6 Oklahoma State
RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 22 -- Two weeks ago, the No. 20 North Carolina State wrestling team was planning on redshirting freshman Kevin Jack from Danbury. A three-time NHSCA All-American, who placed third at the NSCHA Senior Nationals at 126 last march, Jack had compiled a record of 21-5 in six open tournaments.

But the Wolfpack’s plan changed when starter No. 19 ranked Sam Speno was forced out of the lineup at 141 pounds. Jack has taken advantage of the opportunity with three victories in his first three dual meets.

Jack (141) won his third dual meet Sunday night with a 7-3 victory over Oklahoma State freshman Dean Heil, ranked No. 16 in the country. The match was tied 3-3 after two periods but Jack got a takedown and an escape to take control of the bout.

Despite the win, the Wolfpack fell to No. 6 Oklahoma State in the final dual meet of the season, 20-12. The bout was tied at 12 with two matches to go but the Cowboys finished strong to earn the win. North Carolina State finishes the season at 16-6.

Jack pinned Ben Ross of No. 14 Pittsburgh in his first dual meet for the Wolfpack and beat redshirt senior Joe Spisak of No. 13 Virginia earlier this week.

Up next for North Carolina State will be the postseason. The Wolfpack will be competing in the ACC championships on March 8 in Pittsburgh. The NCAA Division I tournament will be March 19-21 in St. Louis.
