Sarah Jadach recognized with President's Award
Derby’s Sarah Jadach, the state chair of USA Wrestling in Connecticut, was recognized with the President’s Award at the recent USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior national championships in Fargo, North Dakota.

The award is presented by James Ravannack, president of USA Wrestling, to a state leader who is exceptional at promoting and building wrestling programs in their state. As part of the award, Jadach will be invited to be a part of the U.S. delegation that will be attending the upcoming world wrestling championships in Las Vegas on Sept. 7-12.

“It is recognition for what she does all year long for wrestling and the work she does in Connecticut to develop our sport,” said Gary Abbott, director of Communications for USA Wrestling. “She has done an excellent job at building the Connecticut program.”

“When I first learned that I won this award, I was so surprised,” Jadach said. “I am so excited and honored to be able to be part of the U.S. team at the world championships. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be given this opportunity.”

She doesn’t know what her role will be at the world championships but Jadach is looking forward to it. She is the first official from Connecticut to receive this honor.

For the past 14 years, she has been the director and a coach of the Derby Renegade wrestling club. In 2002, she joined USA Wrestling as its membership director. She spent time as vice chairman and in 2009, she was elected state chairman of the Connecticut chapter of USA Wrestling.

As chairman, Jadach oversees an organization that has approximately 3,500 athletes and coaches. The organization offers a year-long schedule of events and opportunities for state wrestlers.

Jadach is also responsible for assembling Connecticut’s high school national freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling team and organizing its annual trip to Fargo during the summer for the largest high school tournament in the world.

A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, Jadach, 37, has a degree in mathematics.

Sarah Jadach recognized with a Good Sport Award
SOUTHINGTON, April 26 – The average high school wrestler might compete in four or five tournaments a year. Derby’s Sarah Jadach, the state chairperson of USA Wrestling in Connecticut, might oversee 40 a year. Sometimes, it is three tournaments on a weekend.

That’s a lot of time in the gym. Recently, Jadach was honored for her work to provide opportunities for hundreds of young boys and girls across the state through wrestling. She received a Good Sports Award from the Connecticut Sports Writers Alliance at their annual Gold Key banquet. The award recognizes individuals who have dedicated themselves and their time to helping their communities through athletics.

“This is an honor,” she said. “There is a lot of work that goes into the sport of wrestling. It’s amazing that someone thought of me.”

Jadach is no stranger to wrestling. Her involvement began early. As a youngster, she would be with her father, Buster, the long-time coach of the Derby High wrestling program. At first, she carried some small, equipment bags. As she got older, she started scoring matches.

For the past 14 years, she has been the director and a coach of the Derby Renegade wrestling club. In 2002, she joined USA Wrestling as its membership director. She spent time as vice chairman and in 2009, she was elected state chairman of the Connecticut chapter of USA Wrestling.

Jadach is also responsible for assembling Connecticut’s high school national freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling team and organizing its annual trip to Fargo, N.D. during the summer for the largest high school tournament in the world.
